Payment Gateways

The brains of your online stores

What is a payment gateway?

A payment gateway is the connection between your website and your financial institution (bank), that handles the transactions that take place on your ecommerce website.

What types of payment gateways are available?

The great thing about payment gateways is that they are available in all different sizes to suit any business's needs. Ranging from free to setup payment gateways such as PayPal, to full blown payment gateways such as eWay. The main difference is if the user needs to leave your website to make payment.

With a PayPal solution for example, it is cheaper to originally setup, but in most cases, the user is directed from your website to PayPals site to process the payments.

Alternatively, with a solution such as eWay, the user can stay on your website and have the payment processed in the background.

What else is required other than a payment gateway?

Depending on the situation, you may also require an SSL certificate. This certificate is used when encrypting the information sent from your website to the payment gateway, to help prevent the interception and loss of your clients valuable personal information. Rival can assist you in purchasing the correct SSL certificate for your site.

What payment gateway do you suggest?

Whilst at Rival, we are open to any method of suppling clients with online facilities, we generally support the use of eWay as a payment gateway. eWay has competitive prices and offers a great, Australian based service to our clients.
