Magento 2.0 has been released
Today Magento has announced the release and general availability of the next version of Magneto – Magento 2.0. It has been a long time coming since it was first announced back in 2011.
The new platform brings a mountain of new features and technologies designed to improve performance across both B2C and B2B industries.
“Today we announced the general availability of our next generation open source digital commerce platform, Magento 2.0. The new platform empowers brands, retailers, and businesses across B2C and B2B industries to quickly and cost-effectively deliver engaging omnichannel shopping experiences.”
Magento 2.0 now comes with improved scalability and performance. Full page caching has now been built into the Community Edition – something that usually had to be achieved by third party extensions in the past. Magento 2 has been designed with performance and speed in mind – it also support the latest PHP versions and server configurations, leveraging the performance gains across the board.
The development process in Magento 2 is also much cleaner. Built with the latest technologies in mind, Magento 2 makes use of CSS preprocessors and a much more intuitive customisation process.
New Admin Interface
The old tired looking Magento 1x interface has been retired and replaced with a modern new interface that is full of extra features and customisation options. This will greatly assist store owners in performing the day to day actions of maintaining their website.
The next steps everyone is asking is – am I ready to upgrade – and what types of issues will I face? The answer to this is simply to speak with us and have us assess how the migration could work and what obstacles we see might impact the Magento 2 migration.
Magento 2 should be seen as more of a replatform than an upgrade. Majority of data can be transferred, however the frontend and custom backend modifications either need to be redeveloped, or alternatives found that have already released Magento 2 support.
